Mission Statement

The Willow Street UCC Preschool provides a nurturing, caring environment for young children while helping them to grow socially and emotionally. We encourage your children to learn and explore through play, as we provide kid-centered activities to develop their thinking skills and to foster creativity. We strive to nourish confident learners through discovery, exploration, and fun!

About

The preschool is overseen by church members on the preschool board. The church also provides a scholarship fund for any student that needs one, please contact the director for an application if needed.  The Willow Street UCC Preschool admits students of any race, religion, color, nationality, and ethnic origin, to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. Currently many of our teachers have an Elementary Education and Early Childhood bachelor's degree. We provide continuing education and training to all our staff so we can provide the best possible experience for your children.

HISTORY

The Willow Street UCC Preschool began in 1980 through the efforts of several very energetic church members who joined together to form the first "preschool board" in an outreach program of the Willow Street United Church of Christ. The preschool operates as a non-profit, self-supporting organization that provides a place for children of all faiths and ethnic origins to socialize and learn together. WSUCC Preschool is a secular preschool.

IN THE CLASSROOM

Our goal is to prepare children for a positive kindergarten experience as they learn to cooperate and work together. Working with local school districts through the Transition to Kindergarten Initiative, our classrooms utilize the Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards. The preschool program empowers the children to grow socially and emotionally through individual and group

activities. Child centered activities are used to develop thinking skills, creativity, and literacy development include stories, letter recognition, phonemic awareness, songs, rhythm activities, and finger plays. Math and science activities are designed for children to observe, compare, and experiment. Gym time and outdoor play encourage the children to develop a love for fitness.

We operate on a 30 week schedule, with several vacations throughout the year.Willow Street UCC members and children of current or former preschool families will be given the first opportunity to register.
